STRATIFICATION // DESCONSTRUCTION // RECONSTRUCTION // FRAGMENTATION // TRANSLATION // EMBEDDED MEANINGS

Destroyed House is a body of work created by Dutch artist Marjan Teeuwen. The temporary installations are created by painstakingly assembling and arranging reclaimed wreckages of abondoned buildings into compositions within the original structures. The work was created by the artist to explore themes related to architecture, reconstruction, loss, and memory.

Other than the immediate striking visual effect, when I look at this image, I start to imagine peeling off the surface of the walls and floors in front of me, revealing an alternative reality. What lies behind are stratified fragments of data and memories, embedded within the physical structure our surrounding environment.
