E01 // QUANTAMIC HOUSE

Chapter 5: Redefining the Standard House

Rather than being defined by a set of physical dimensions, a person can be characterised through their activities.  When measured, the fluctuations and deviations from the baseline measurements establish each individual’s unique behaviometric fingerprint.  Similarly, instead of being described as a set of spatial dimensions, a house can also be defined through measurements of different activities within.  The pattern of fluctuations emerging from this matrix of measurement forms the unique behaviometic footprint of a house.

So what are the measurement points that we can utilise to map out the behaviormetrics of a house?

Parameters conatined within a door

If looked at closely, the activities within the house are manifestations of  changes and variations experienced at various points embedded within the house.  When we walk around the house, the floor experiences changes in mechanical pressure.  The event of a door being opened can be captured as rotational displacement at the hinges. The set of locations (physical, electrical, and digital) where changes occur forms the parameters network for the behaviometric matrix of a house.

Parameters wthin the house

Changes recorded at these parameter points provide streams of data that can then be mapped.  Over time, unique hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly patterns would emerge, capturing the occupants’ behavioural cycles within the parameters of the house.  Changes recorded at these parameter points provide streams of data that can then be mapped.  Over time, unique hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly patterns would emerge, capturing the occupants’ behavioural cycles within the parameters of the house.

Changes recorded at the door between 6pm to 11pm on a given day.

A map of the changes recorded in the house from 00:00 to 23:59 on a given day.

Therefore, a standard house with a behaviometric footprint will not be drawn but mapped.  The next question is: What can we do with the behaviometric pattern of a house, and what is there to design for such a house.
